Time Remaining: From Sigh to Significance
Psalm 90:16 issues a powerful invitation: “Let us see your miracles again.” Read that again. Are you meant to witness those miracles—to improve and change lives? Are these miracles occurring in your workplace or more likely in your communities?
How much time do we have to engage? Psalm 90 also reminds us that life is brief—“a mere seventy years” (v.10), with grace for some to live longer. Still longer. That phrase should stop you in your tracks. If you’ve been given more time, the question becomes unavoidable: what are you doing with your TR—your Time Remaining?
For those of you who are in your thirties, forties or fifties, this is a special calling to you as well. Can you make the time to move from personal success to something more significant?
True significance isn’t about accumulating more. Not more money, not more status, not more things. You can’t take any of it with you. Comparing bank accounts, houses, and cars is a distraction from the deeper call: to live like Christ—focused outward, not inward. A life of significance is not built on ego, but on contribution.
Here’s the truth many high achievers quietly wrestle with: success doesn’t satisfy the soul. You can be financially secure and still feel restless. You can hold a title and still feel irrelevant. That restlessness is not a flaw—it’s a signal. Your soul is underfed, and it’s craving purpose.
Look in the mirror. The answer matters.
The passage continues in verse 16: “let the rising generation see the glorious wonders you’re famous for.” Your children, grandchildren, and those watching your life are forming their understanding of purpose by observing you. What are you modeling? Accumulation—or impact? Comfort—or courage?
And then comes the line that changes everything in verse 17:
“Let your sweet beauty rest upon us. Come work with us, then our works will endure; you will give us success in all we do.”
Psalm 90:17 TPT
Significance is not accidental. It’s intentional.
This is where the idea of Side Quests comes alive. You don’t have to quit your job or overhaul your life overnight, but you do need to act. Side Quests are the small, meaningful actions you take alongside your daily responsibilities—ways to serve, to lift others, to use your talents in ways that matter.
This is high stakes. Your TR is finite.
Look at these examples of people similar to you. Names and identifying details have been omitted to protect privacy. They are improving and changing lives, while finding their own true purpose.
